Advertising assessment: Learner response

1) Type up your WWW/EBI feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential). 
WWW: Lots of analysis, evaluation for Q3 + Q4 = Galaxy + NHS. Able to support your references with clear examples/ media terms. EBI: More specific focus on the historical, social + cultural context in relation to the OMO LSP advert. Avoid careless mistakes with Q1 too - revise conventions of advertisements. 23/32

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Write down the mark you achieved for each question: 

Q1: 1/2
Q2: 8/12
Q3: 5/6
Q4: 9/12

3) Look specifically at question 2 - the OMO 12-mark question. Pick out three points from the mark scheme that you didn't include in your answer. 1955, Patriarchal society, male dominated. Women in male-dominated fields during WWII.

4) Now look at question 3 - on the NHS Represent advert. Use the mark scheme to identify one way the advert subverts stereotypes of race/ethnicity and one way it might reinforce stereotypes of race/ethnicity. Try and write points you didn't include in your original answer if you can. Advert subverts stereotypes by having a black woman as a CEO when the field is dominated by White men. Advert panders to stereotypes by having a black man play sports which is commonly portrayed in media.

5) Finally, look at question 4. Use the mark scheme to identify three points you could have made regarding the key messages in the Galaxy advert with regards to genre, narrative and intertextuality. Genre: Romance with the main focus being a woman meeting a man. Narrative: The chauffer offers to 'save' a woman who's bus' path is blocked by a spilled fruit cart. Intertextuality: Actress is a CGI of Audrey Hepburn, music used is from one of her films 'Roman Holiday'.

  Risky business The creative industries are a risky business for companies - it costs a huge amount of money to create a media product like a film and there's no guarantee the audience will like it. No brand loyalty A new, original film has no established brand or audience - it has to generate all the interest through marketing.
